Mark began his career as a Carpenter with Robert Cubitt Holdings. He then joined Fairclough Building (AMEC Plc), progressing from General Foreman to Contracts Manager over a period of 18 years with the business. Having progressed through all ranks of the industry and in doing so moving from a practical to technical role, he is considered to have a very practical approach complemented by excellent academic skills. He joined Jackson Construction Limited as an Associate Director and was promoted to Main Board Director within four years. In 2007, Mark joined Barnes Construction as an Associate Director, before becoming Divisional Construction Director in November 2010, and ultimately Joint Divisional Managing Director in 2018. During his career, Mark has been involved with and responsible for many complex and iconic buildings in East Anglia some of which have achieved industry awards in recognition of their complex nature and high levels of workmanship quality.

Overseeing the delivery side of the business, Mark is responsible for Design Management and construction, as well as the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) function. He enjoys building mutually beneficial relationships with our clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, and prides himself on championing the non-adversarial culture for which Barnes Construction is known. Mark considers the growth of our business in Cambridge to be one of his most significant achievements- we have delivered 32 projects in the city since our first in 2009.
