THE PROJECT CONSISTED OF AN EIGHT CLASSROOM NEW BUILD EXTENSION TO THE EXISTING INFANT AND JUNIOR SCHOOL AND REFURBISHMENT AND MULTIPLE UPGRADES ACROSS THE SITE.
The project comprised of the demolition of an existing caretakers house to allow for an extension to the existing hall and an eight classroom new build stand-alone teaching block with associated hard and soft landscaping.
The project comprised of a timber frame construction with a mixture of trespa and timber cladding, external works included a playground and walkways to the existing school buildings. Externally, reconfiguration of the car-parking area to double the number of available spaces.
Internally, remodelling to provide new teaching spaces, toilets and offices, structural and services alterations along with the installation of new stainless steel furniture to provide a remodelled kitchen.
The infant’s walkway was open sided timber with plastic roofing to begin with, school commented, that they felt, for the younger children in the infant classes this would be too cold and dark to walk comfortably. A new revised walkway was suggested, although baring an extra cost, and the school preferred this option of a metal frame and side panels with extra lighting provided within.
To enable a non-intrusive access via the playing field, Grasscrete was used to form the access for emergency vehicles to the school via the only main road around the site through to the centre area.
School assemblies were attended by the Site Manager, Rob Stanes, he dressed up as Father Christmas. The pupils were also invited to have a guided tour of the building site.
