INVESTMENT IN OUR PEOPLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CORNERSTONE OF OUR BUSINESS.

We were the first construction company in the region to introduce a management training programme. We are proud to have 'home grown' over 60% of our management team and enjoy very low staff turnover.

As well as running craft-based apprenticeships that have an intake from local schools, we focus on training and developing our existing staff rather than being overly-reliant upon external recruitment.

Our directors, headed by Nick Fayers, have over 150 years' service between them. Both Chris Bruce and Mark Bailey, started their careers at Barnes Construction as management trainees.

We believe that when a member of staff grows up within the company they have the in-built knowledge of our ethos and how our business functions from grass roots through to decision-making positions. We continue to invest each year in our staff development programme, we recruit school leavers into our management training programme and take apprentices to train within our teams of skilled craftsmen, made up of carpenters, painters and ground workers.

Our extended family values and approach to staff development were commended by the judges when we won Business of the Year at the Anglian Business Awards.
