BARNES CONSTRUCTION BELIEVES IT IS VITAL TO INVOLVE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE BROADER COMMUNITIES IN WHICH IT WORKS AND WANTS TO ENSURE THAT EVERYONE THAT COMES INTO CONTACT WITH THE BUSINESS AND ITS OPERATIONS IS SAFE, SECURE AND FEELS VALUED AND WELCOMED.
Barnes Construction support and encourage members of staff to engage with local activities and charities, regularly supporting a vast range of charitable activities relating to causes close to our hearts and/or close to where we may be working.
Within the Barnes Group, we select an annual ‘Charity of the Year’ which is chosen by our staff via a nomination and voting arrangement. Fund raising events are held through the year and donations made in support of the charity. Our chosen ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2018 is AMEND UK.
We have supported study groups, helped with mock interviews, run construction days and worked in conjunction with Construction Skills, the National Federation of Builders and Chartered Institute of Building to promote our Industry within a wider community, winning a number of awards for our initiatives.
Through our work in the Education Sector we have supported a variety of construction road shows, helped a number of schools deliver elements of the National Curriculum and assisted in youth development programmes via site visits and work experience.
Much of what we do on our sites impacts on the local community and, in conjunction with the Considerate Contractors' Scheme we ensure, via consultation, newsletters (outlining progress/future site activities) and site visits that we engage with local communities and businesses.
Construction sites can be dangerous places so we ensure that we offer to visit local schools to present on health and safety matters coupled with support on team working and practical activities.
Aligned with our environmental objectives, we provide charitable and practical support to both the Suffolk Wildlife Trust and the Suffolk Barn Owl Project.
We provide employment in the local community through recruitment of apprentices, management trainees and other staff; the use of local sub-contractors and material supply chain partners and create links with businesses local to each individual project for the provision of site specific services.
